Photos from “The Nebraska Store”, located in downtown Lincoln. I was a little uneasy, too.

You saw a shirt for $97. You didn’t have the cash, so you borrowed $50 from your mom and $50 from your dad = $100. You bought the shirt, and had $3 change. You gave your dad $1 and your mom $1 and kept the other $1 for yourself. Now you owe your mum $49 and your dad $49. 49+49 = 98 + your $1 = 99. Where is the missing $1?

The real mystery here is why the HELL would you buy a shirt for $97. Is it made of gold or some shit?

what the mind fuck.

 damn taxes

This is why I don’t believe in math.

ohmygod.

 I’m probably mindfucked forever :/

In your pocket?! I don’t understand…

WHAT THE MOTHER OF FUCKING FUCK

WHAT. I DONT GET IT.

WTF. I SAT HERE FOR 5 MINUTES WTF

Ok, I don’t get it, I’m sitting here trying to add it up on paper and figure it out but I’m completely mind fucked

It’s a trick question - you wouldn’t add the dollar to the amount you already owe your parents. You have it, not them, so it’s already included in that $98. By giving them that dollar, you owe each of them less ($97 total), not more (the $99 total given in the question).

Okay, so you borrowed $50 from each parent and gave them each back $1. Now you owe each of them $49, yes? $49 + $49 = $98. You spent $97 on the shirt, and you kept $1 for yourself. $97 + $1 = the $98 you owe. So there is no missing dollar.

To look at it another way, if you had given your parents the dollar, you would now owe each of them $48.50. $48 + $48.50 = $97, which is the amount you spent on the shirt. Again, no missing dollar.
